About
Linda from Liverpool England, met Doug at a sailing club in Washington DC on one of her trips to America. She, a professional woman from England and he, a geologist of considerable renown — the two made an unlikely pair. Doug had bought his land in Kentucky in 1969 and began building his log cabin home, a project which extended over several years.
Linda and Doug were married in 1992 and moved to Kentucky where they worked together to develop the land into a place they could share with others.
How Lago Linda Hideaway was named: Doug and Linda built a dam to catch water from two mountain streams to form their lake. As they were watching the lake fill, Doug ammounced that the lake should be called “Lago Linda,” meaning Linda’s Lake.
In 2005, The “hideaway” was attached to the original name by, James McWhorter, a student from Berea College who came to stay at Lago Linda to document trails and photograph wildlife. “It is a perfect Hideaway,” he said. Thus, the name ‘Hideaway” was added to Lago Linda.
“ We cherish our little piece of Appalachian woods and we hope you will visit us to experience the peace and serenity at our Hideaway.”
